Liverpool player ‘could miss six weeks’ in devastating injury blow

Curtis Jones could be sidelined for up to six weeks for Liverpool after he sustained a fresh injury setback against Lille in the Champions League, according to Physio Scout.

Arne Slot removed the 23-year-old at half-time during the 2-1 win on Tuesday (21 January) as he faces his fifth spell on the treatment table in two years.

As per Paul Joyce (24 January), the Scouser will miss the Premier League clash against Ipswich Town on Saturday (25 January) and remains doubtful for the upcoming fixtures against PSV Eindhoven and Bournemouth.

However, the reliable Physio Scout posted on X (25 January) that Jones could be out for up to six weeks with a groin/adductor injury.

Curtis Jones faces make-or-break season at Liverpool

It is easy to forget that Jones is still only 23 with plenty of time to develop on Merseyside, but he is running out of time to impress.

Ever since he broke into the first-team picture, his performances have been widely disappointing, with a few purple patches sprinkled throughout.

Jones won the penalty for Mohamed Salah to convert and scored the match-winner in the 2-1 win against Chelsea on 20 October in arguably his best outing in a Reds shirt.

He also assisted Salah for the opener in the win against Lille, but after stating on the club’s official website (28 December) that he wants to be a main player in this Liverpool side, he has not delivered on his promise.

There is only so much time he can coast at Anfield under the radar until the Reds supporters start demanding more from one of their own.

Those supporters eagle-eyed enough would have spotted Jones producing an absolute howler of a display against Manchester United while all the attention was on Trent Alexander-Arnold’s performance.

Jones has shot himself in the foot following his latest comments regarding Salah, but his displays matter most to the supporters, and he could very well be on the chopping block next summer unless Slot oversees drastic improvement.
