Federico Chiesa can kickstart Liverpool career v Ipswich
Liverpool star Federico Chiesa has struggled to force his way into Arne Slot’s plans so far this season since his unexpected move.
The Italian has featured in just seven matches for a total of 186 minutes since his move to Anfield in the summer and reports had emerged linking him with a move back to Italy as a result. [Calciomercato]
However, those reports were dismissed by the Reds and his cameo in the 2-1 Champions League victory against Lille on Tuesday (21 January) was arguably his most encouraging yet.
He could be rewarded with a more significant role against Ipswich Town on Saturday (25 January).
Chiesa can thrive at Liverpool
The Italy international was brought in to provide cover for Mohamed Salah but has struggled to make an impact given the Egyptian’s sensational form and his injury issues.
The former Juventus man has featured in just two of the Reds’ 22 Premier League matches this season for a total of 21 minutes.
He bagged his first goal for the Anfield outfit in the 4-0 FA Cup win over League Two side Accrington Stanley with a stunning drive from outside the box, giving supporters a glimpse of what he can do.
He also impressed in the win over the French side on Tuesday, with his tenacity, directness and ability to create chances on show in a 15-minute cameo.

In that appearance, the Italian recorded a 100 per cent pass accuracy from the three that he attempted and made one pass into the final third. [Fotmob]
Despite having just seven touches in the contest, three of them came in the opposition box as he pushed to make an impression on the clash.
He also had two shots on target, which was the second most for the Reds, with only Salah recording more for Slot’s side.
His ability to play across the front three could come in handy for Slot in the second half of the season as his side chase glory in four competitions.
Chiesa could very well kickstart his Reds career and play a decisive part in that quest if he can maintain his fitness levels during the run-in.
