TAA ‘all about the money’ as Sky Sports share shock Liverpool-Real Madrid update
Trent Alexander-Arnold has shown his true colours – he has decided between Liverpool and Real Madrid.
The 26-year-old has stolen the headlines at Anfield all season as he enters the final months of his contract, prompting the La Liga giants to launch an official approach for his services this month [Andy Hunter].
While an agreement with Madrid has yet to be reached [Sky Sports], the lack of development on Merseyside has heightened the supporters’ fears, and now they are finally set to be put out of their misery.
According to Sky Sports reporter Sacho Tavolieri (22 January), Trent has finally made his decision, and that decision is Real Madrid.
Trent Alexander-Arnold will leave Liverpool for Real Madrid
Trent’s impending move to Real Madrid has been one of the worst-kept secrets in football, but at least now Liverpool fans have clarity.
As Tavolieri mentioned, the right-back is well aware of what England teammate Jude Bellingham is earning in Spain and is eager to strike a deal for a similar amount.
The decision around the move is “certainly financial”, as all of the Reds’ offers of a contract extension have fallen below his demands.
Who is surprised? If you are, you shouldn’t be. Once mentions of captaining Liverpool for the rest of his career turned to ambitions of winning the Ballon d’Or and leaving a “legacy” (Sky Sports, 25 October), his fate was sealed.
Fernando Torres, Philippe Coutinho, Georginio Wijnaldum, Sadio Mane and ex-Real Madrid man Michael Owen all left Anfield for supposedly bigger and better things, but for some reason, Trent believes his story will be different.

Indeed, it is not the player’s fault his contract is nearing its expiry, but allowing the saga to cast a cloud over what could be a Premier League-winning season for Arne Slot is downright selfish.
The Reds supporters would have far more respect for Trent if he had been open about his intentions and outright said he was heading to Spain for a new challenge.
Nevertheless, Liverpool can complete a free transfer of their own with Bayern Munich star Joshua Kimmich as a direct replacement for the vice captain [Sky Sports].
The slot must be ruthless, and now, Trent should be dropped for the remainder of the season. This will allow Conor Bradley the chance to showcase his talents and make a statement about becoming the long-term option at right back.
Liverpool fans have relentlessly defended Trent for years when he has been destroyed in the UK media, and this is how he repays them. Once the Real Madrid fans turn on him for one bad performance, he better not think a return to Anfield is possible.
