McCoist shares ‘hunch’ he has about Alexander-Arnold at Liverpool, Brazil agrees
Ally McCoist and Alan Brazil believe that Trent Alexander-Arnold will leave Liverpool upon the expiry of his contract this season.
Alexander-Arnold, alongside Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah all have their deals expiring at the end of the 2024/25 campaign with none of them having yet agreed to an extension.
Speaking live on talkSPORT (22 January, 06:12am), McCoist shared a “hunch” he had about what Van Dijk is likely to do.
“Somehow, I don’t know how they’re going to do it but they’ve got to keep him [Salah] surely,” Brazil said.
To which McCoist replied: “Oh yeah, I don’t know what you think yourself and I’ve got absolutely no knowledge it’s just a hunch but I think him and the big centre-back Van Dijk, who incidentally has been outrageous as well this season, will stay and I don’t know why but I think Trent will leave.”
Brazil then said: “You hear all these stories flying about don’t you and I’d heard that Trent felt unloved because they were talking to Mo before about his contract and probably Van Dijk so I think he’s waiting to see what happens with one of the other two what happens before he’ll make his mind up but I feel he’s going, I really do.”
Liverpool need to sign at least two of the three who are set to exit Anfield
There’s no denying that most, if not all, of Liverpool’s fanbase would want nothing more than each of Salah, Alexander-Arnold and Van Dijk to stay on the books.
This season, the trio have been some of the most influential players within the squad with each of them stepping up to the plate to lead Liverpool’s charge for trophies.
Salah is still the best attacker within Arne Slot’s ranks and the fact he’s rarely injured plays a major part in why he’s so consistent.
Others such as Diogo Jota just don’t have the fitness of the Egyptian and, at the moment, it’s hard to see how Slot would line his team up without the former Chelsea man on the flank.

Of course, there are still around six months left until they become free agents but with the way things seem to be going so far, the extension of any of the three would be music to fans’ ears.
Because at the moment, none of them are signed on which is a rather large cause for concern.
