Liverpool loanee makes honest Klopp admission after what happened at Anfield
Stefan Bajcetic admits his “body couldn’t handle” the amount of games he played at Liverpool under Jurgen Klopp.
The midfielder was the Reds’ saving grace in the 2022/23 season when he emerged from nothing to become a key cog in the Merseyside outfit’s set-up.
Speaking to Spanish outlet Cadenaser (21 January), Bajcetic, who is currently out on loan to RB Salzburg for the season, shared his thoughts on the amount of game time he had under the German and why he hasn’t kicked on since.
“I had a good spell at Liverpool, where I played a lot of games. In the end, I was and still am a young lad and in the end, my body couldn’t handle the load of games,” he said.
“I had an injury, a groin pain, which I later suffered from again. I spent almost a whole year without playing time. So, together with Liverpool, this summer we decided, due to the competition, to look for minutes elsewhere.”
Stefan Bajcetic could still be important to Liverpool
Even though the Spaniard is spending a season away from the Premier League with Salzburg, it still feels like he has a more than bright future ahead of him.
The midfielder was used as the Reds’ number-six a total of 26 times in the 2022/23 season when he was just 18 years old and on his debut campaign no less.
While he was more than able to keep up with Liverpool’s Premier League opponents, he was often made to play two or three games on the bounce due to the multiple injuries Klopp’s men seemed to suffer so often.

This resulted in the youngster perhaps being overplayed and eventually led to almost an entire season on the sidelines, which is far from ideal for Liverpool or the player himself.
Indeed, the likes of Ryan Gravenberch and Alexis Mac Allister have been used to play in the defensive midfield spot in Arne Slot’s team this season but, upon his return next term, if he’s managed to get back to the level he was at before his injury, he could play a regular role in the Reds’ first-team.
