Troy Deeney blown away by what Szoboszlai did in Liverpool win v Brentford
Dominik Szoboszlai could have had five goals for Liverpool in their 2-0 win against Brentford on Saturday, according to Troy Deeney.
Naming the Hungary international in his Premier League team of the week, Deeney dubbed his performance against the Bees as “excellent”.
The Watford legend added that Szoboszlai’s first-half strike that was denied by the crossbar was one of the best shots he has ever seen.
“He was excellent against Brentford and was a growing influence throughout the game”, Deeney wrote in his BBC Sport column (21 January).
“He looks comfortable in Arne Slot’s side now. He hit the bar with one of the best strikes I have ever seen, and on another day he could have had five.”
Dominik Szoboszlai integral to Arne Slot at Liverpool
As an attacking midfielder, Szoboszlai does not contribute to as many goals as one would expect, having bagged two goals and three assists in 19 Premier League appearances.
However, the 24-year-old’s importance in Arne Slot’s team is not lost on the Anfield faithful.
His absence was there to be seen when Liverpool lost 1-0 against Tottenham in the first leg of their EFL Cup semi-final tie and drew 2-2 against Manchester United in the Premier League this month.
Slot will be hopeful of keeping the former RB Leipzig ace fit for the rest of the season as he looks to lead the Reds to glory in his first season in charge of them.

The Merseyside-based club are competing on all fronts this season and it is important that the likes of Szoboszlai avoid serious injuries.
It remains to be seen if the Hungarian will be in Liverpool’s starting line-up to face Lille in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday, 21 January.
