Robbie Fowler drops ‘sneaky’ Liverpool claim in Alexander-Arnold contract theory
Robbie Fowler feels two of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk have already signed new deals with Liverpool.
The Reds legend is of the view that one of those three players may now leave the Merseyside-based club when his existing deal runs out at the end of the season.
He added that the Anfield outfit may be holding off announcements to avoid possibly putting pressure on the third player who is yet to agree to a new contract.
Fowler told Ben Foster on Amazon Prime (19 January): “I’ve got a sneaky feeling one of them [will leave] now. In everyone’s eyes, it is probably, maybe Trent [Alexander-Arnold].
“Look, it’s no inside information, but I do have a little theory actually.
“I don’t know if this is so far from the truth, I just think two of them have signed already, you know, for some reason.
“Maybe one hasn’t, but a simple fact is that the club cannot come out and say, ‘You have signed’ because it then makes the other one look worse. I think there’s a possibility that may have happened.
“If two of them sign and they come out and say, ‘We’ve signed’, it puts so much pressure on the other one, doesn’t it?”
Trent Alexander-Arnold to leave Liverpool amid Robbie Fowler theory
Fowler is correct. As things stand, Alexander-Arnold is the most likely to leave of the three superstars with expiring contracts.
Salah has publicly expressed his desire to remain at Anfield, while Van Dijk has also echoed similar feelings.
There are no signs to suggest that things have turned sour between Alexander-Arnold and the Merseyside-based club. After all, he is the vice-captain and one of the local boys in the team.
However, everything seems to point towards a move to Real Madrid for the England international.
It is worth noting that Liverpool turned down an approach from the La Liga giants ahead of the winter transfer window [Paul Joyce].
Liverpool, though, cannot afford to lose all three of the aforementioned players in the summer.
Alexander-Arnold, Salah and Van Dijk have established themselves as key players of the Premier League giants over the years and losing even one of them will cause a massive void in the squad.
Therefore, it is imperative that the Reds tie at least two of those players down to a new deal as Fowler said.
