Darwin Nunez ‘can continue Liverpool redemption’ v Lille
Liverpool star Darwin Nunez can continue his redemption in the Champions League clash with Lille at Anfield on Tuesday.
The 25-year-old has struggled to make the required impact at Anfield since his move from Benfica in June 2022 and the Reds were willing to listen to offers in the winter transfer window. [Caught Offside]
Despite that, the Uruguayan scored a late brace to secure a 2-0 victory against Brentford last time out that resulted in the Reds taking a six-point advantage at the top of the Premier League.
He may well be handed the chance to continue to repair his Anfield career against Lille on 21 January as Diogo Jota is an injury doubt and Luis Diaz has failed to impress in the number nine role.
Darwin Nunez set to continue Liverpool resurgence?
The Uruguay international put in a Man of the Match display at the Gtech Community Stadium on Saturday (18 January) in a 25-minute cameo.
With the Reds seemingly about to drop points in the title race, the former Benfica man popped up with two composed finishes to give his side the three points.
Diaz had once again failed to make a significant impact on the clash with his embarrassing dive after Mark Flekken parried his shot summing up a woeful performance.

The 28-year-old was replaced by Nunez in the 65th-minute and the latter pleaded his case for a starting berth with his performance.
Most importantly, he scored the two goals to give his side the win but he was a nuisance for the Bees throughout, taking five of his ten touches in the Brentford box, just three less than Diaz’s eight.
He had four shots, two on target and was successful with one of his two dribble attempts for a 50 per cent success rate.
He also tried to help out defensively but only won one of three ground duels, for a 33 per cent success rate and won 50 per cent of his two aerial battles.
The 33-cap international has more goal contributions as a substitute than any other player in the Premier League this season, with seven goals and four assists.
Given the fact that the Reds cannot rely on Jota’s fitness and Diaz’s woes in the central role lately, there is a chance for Nunez to become a hero and revive his career on Merseyside.
It would be a fitting reward for the passion and hard work that he has shown despite his struggles if he can snatch a regular starting spot and score the goals that win Arne Slot’s side the biggest prizes.
