Jamie Carragher proven wrong after what Liverpool ace did v Brentford

Liverpool have been in some stellar form this season but not all of their players have been at their best throughout the entirety of the campaign.

Of course, there are some exceptions such as Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk, but not every player can play with the consistent brilliance of those superstars.

One player who’s been at the brunt of a lot of questions from Liverpool fans is Darwin Nunez. While fans may love him for the chaos he brings to the team, when brought in his form has been fairly patchy.

And, speaking on The Overlap Podcast (16 January, 35:30) Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher shared that he believes the Reds “aren’t happy” with their options at striker at the moment.

“If you go through the Premier League, Liverpool aren’t happy with their striker, probably Nunez and we love Jota but he’s not fit,” he said.

However, he’s since been made to eat his words as Nunez is the only reason why Arne Slot’s men left the Gtech Community Stadium with all three points to their name in a 2-0 win at Brentford on Saturday (19 January).

Darwin Nunez deserves less slander thrown his way at Liverpool

Indeed, there are always ways that players could improve and ensure their team gets stronger by shipping off players and attempting to bring in better players but, at the moment, it feels like Liverpool have bigger issues than their attacking line.

While the future of Salah is still up in the air, at the moment it’s evident that the Reds need some new reinforcement for their defensive line, particularly at left-back.

Of course, centre-back is also a problem area but with the likes of Van Dijk, Joe Gomez, Ibrahima Konate and Jarell Quansah at their disposal, it’s not as much of a priority as a left-back.

Which is why it feels imperative that Slot should try and keep the Uruguayan within his ranks to try and help Liverpool win their first top-flight title in the Dutchman’s era.

Only time will tell what the future holds for the attacker but at the moment, it feels silly to get rid of him, especially after what he did against the Bees.
