Luis Diaz destroyed for ’embarrassing’ incident in Liverpool v Brentford

Kris Boyd has slammed Luis Diaz for an “embarrassing” dive as Liverpool picked up a late win against Brentford on Saturday.

The Reds extended their lead at the summit of the Premier League to seven points with a 2-0 win before Arsenal face Aston Villa on 18 January.

In the 62nd minute, Diaz went down after Mark Flekken had parried his shot away but a penalty was not awarded in a sequence that sums up his form lately.

Speaking live on Sky Sports’ Soccer Saturday (18 December, 16:20 pm), Boyd exploded, saying: “That is embarrassing, to go down that like that, that is embarrassing.”

Liverpool star Diaz is under fire at Anfield

The 28-year-old was criticised after the 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest on Tuesday (14 January) after Diogo Jota scored 22 seconds after he came on.

The Colombia international has impressed in the number nine role at times this season but his influence has decreased in recent weeks leading to calls for Arne Slot to drop him from the starting line-up.

The dive summed up how his performances have been recently, he has scored three goals in seven league games since December.

Serious concerns are arising over his long-term future at Anfield with the former Porto man unable to lock down a starting spot on the left flank or up front.

It is unlikely that he would have started today had Jota not picked up a knock against Forest that kept him out of this clash.

If Diaz continues to underwhelm, he could find himself heading towards an exit in the near future.
