Kris Boyd stunned by unexpected Szoboszlai moment for Liverpool v Brentford

Kris Boyd was stunned by an unexpected Dominik Szoboszlai shot at goal as Liverpool won at Brentford on Saturday.

The Reds left it late at the Gtech Community Stadium on 18 January, with Darwin Nunez coming off the bench to score twice in a 2-0 win.

After a slow start to the game, the Hungarian international let loose a long-range effort that smashed against the woodwork.

Speaking live on Sky Sports’ Soccer Saturday (18 January, 15:36), Boyd was shocked, saying: “Szoboszlai has just crashed one of the top of the crossbar, what a strike this is.

“Just unexpected, he just keeps going and going, then unleashes it and it just comes crashing off the top of the bar and away for a goal kick.

“He has looked a threat.”

Liverpool need a victory at Brentford

The Reds needed a victory against the Bees, with the Gunners likely watching on ahead of their late 2-2 draw against Aston Villa at the Emirates.

Arne Slot’s side have dropped points in four of their last seven league matches, they were desperate to not make it five of the last eight and keep their significant advantage.

Szoboszlai looked like their most dangerous player for a significant period, taking seven shots in his 80-minute appearances, four of which were blocked, one which was on target and two off target, including the one that smashed against the bar.[Fotmob]

He constantly got into the opposition box, taking eight touches of his 51 total touches within the Bees penalty area.

A Nunez double in added time decided the match, giving the Reds all three points after they had been frustrated for most of the contest.

It was a massive result, given recent results and Slot’s side will now take momentum into their next league match rather than continuing their bad run.
