Darwin Nunez ‘suffering’ at Liverpool as big claim made by Richard Keys

Darwin Nunez has been “suffering” at Liverpool, according to Richard Keys.

The Uruguay international emerged as the hero for the Reds in their 2-0 win against Brentford on Saturday (18 January), coming off the bench and bagging a brace to give his side all three points.

Instantly reacting to the result in the beIN Sports studio, Andy Gray suggested that the game could be a “turning point” for Nunez.

“That might be a turning point for Nunez, you just don’t know”, Gray said on beIN Sports (18 January, 4:55 pm).

Keys, meanwhile, noticed Nunez celebrating with his teammates after the game and said that he has been “suffering”.

“He’s a very popular talent, evidently. And, that tells me, he’s been suffering, his colleagues are aware of that”, Keys said.

Gray replied: “Yes, he has been suffering and, as I said, it might just be the turning point for him because I still think without a centre-forward, even before he came on, they lacked someone who’s right in the middle of the goal there, who does it naturally, like he did twice.

“So, if it is a turning point, then Liverpool will be happy with that.”

Arne Slot has Darwin Nunez decision to make at Liverpool

There is no doubt that Nunez remains a popular figure among the Liverpool faithful despite his inconsistencies.

The brace against Brentford will certainly be a huge boost of confidence to the 25-year-old, who scored in the Premier League for the first time in over three months since, with his last goal coming in the 2-0 win against Aston Villa on 9 November.

The opener against Brentford immediately seemed to do a world of good for the former Benfica man as he appeared composed in front of the goal for his second as he calmly took a touch inside the box before thumping the ball past Mark Flekken.

However, it remains to be seen how he fares in the upcoming games as this would not be the first time he has given the Merseyside-based club false hopes.

Arne Slot and Co, though, will be delighted if Nunez can use the brace against Brentford to kick-start his season as an out-and-out striker would certainly boost Liverpool’s title hopes.

In other Liverpool news, this Premier League star is leaning towards joining the Reds amid a £50million development.
