Nottm Forest in running to sign Liverpool ace Nunez after Slot shares new update

Nottingham Forest have entered the running to sign Darwin Nunez from Liverpool, according to the latest bookmakers’ odds.

The Uruguayan has come under fire at Anfield in recent weeks and has since been linked with a switch to Saudi Arabian outfit Al-Hilal [Anfield Watch].

With the potential of a move away in the pipeline, Premier League high flyers Forest have been given odds of 16/1 to land the 25-year-old [Bet Victor].

Despite these exit links, Arne Slot has defended his forward in his press conference (17 January), transcribed by Liverpool.com.

He said: “It’s your perception, not mine, that he is struggling for confidence, he was involved in goals against Accrington and Fulham and he scored versus Southampton.

“So for me, it’s the life of a striker. Sometimes you score, sometimes you don’t, and he hasn’t started every week.”

“We scored in every game except for Spurs in the cup [and Nottingham Forest at home], so that tells me we have goals in our team. Darwin will score like he has done already. I don’t see him struggling that much as you see it.”

The former Benfica star undoubtedly has the potential to become one of the best players available to Slot in L4.

Nunez just hasn’t been able to showcase his talents under the Dutchman yet this season as he acclimatises after the departure of Jurgen Klopp.

The style of football under the German was much more focused on pressing and creating chaos which suited the forward much better.

Despite struggling at times under the new head coach, it is clear that the ex-Feyenoord boss still has faith in his number nine.

As a result, it would come as a massive surprise to see the Reds part ways with the Uruguayan, especially to a side like Nottingham Forest.

Although Nuno Espirito Santo’s side are second in the Premier League as it stands, they only narrowly avoided relegation last season which wouldn’t represent an attractive prospect for Nunez.

Despite potential interest from the City Ground, Slot needs to remain patient and work with the striker to help get the best out of him rather than getting rid so soon.
