Man City next manager: Liverpool legend now shock favourite amid Guardiola chaos
Pep Guardiola is enduring a nightmare at Manchester City this season – much to the delight of Liverpool fans.
City blew a two-goal lead away at Brentford on Tuesday night (14 January) to draw 2-2 and missed out on a chance to return to the Premier League’s top four.
Now, with 21 games played, the reigning Premier League champions are sixth in the table with 35 points – 12 behind leaders Liverpool.
Guardiola’s personal and professional life have come under the microscope in recent weeks. He’s currently priced at 10/1 to be the next Premier League manager to be sacked [BetVictor] and he’s also reportedly set to divorce his wide Cristina Serra.
Liverpool hero in running to be new Manchester City manager
Amid the chaos at Man City, SkyBet have priced former Anfield star Xabi Alonso as the 3/1 joint-favourite to succeed Guardiola at the Etihad.
Girona manager Michel is also top of the list to replace the ex-Barcelona boss, who has overseen just three wins in his last 12 Premier League matches.
Alonso, 43, has been in charge of Bayer Leverkusen since 2022.

The former midfielder, who played for Liverpool between 2004 and 2009, won a domestic treble with Leverkusen last season and almost achieved an incredible unbeaten quadruple before losing the Europa League final to Atalanta.
Alonso’s Leverkusen are currently second in the Bundesliga, one point behind leaders Bayern Munich, who also have a game in hand.
According to SkyBet, Bayern manager and former Man City defender Vincent Kompany (8/1) and – shockingly – Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim (12/1) are also in the running.
In other Liverpool news, the Reds have been told to get rid of Luis Diaz after what he did against Nottingham Forest.
