Liverpool told to sell Darwin Nunez now after what happened at Anfield

Liverpool supporters have urged Richard Hughes to sell Darwin Nunez after he failed to score in the 4-0 win against Accrington Stanley.

Arne Slot handed the Uruguayan an opportunity to impress on Saturday (11 January) as he rang in the changes for the FA Cup third-round tie at Anfield.

However, he failed to find the back of the net against the League Two outfit and could only assist Diogo Jota on the day, as Jayden Danns and Federico Chiesa came off the bench to add their names to the scoresheet.

After two-and-a-half years on Merseyside, Darwin may be heading for the exit door after crunch talks with Slot [Caught Offside] and by the look of it, the Liverpool faithful will be all too pleased to see Nunez pack his bags this month.

Darwin Nunez appears to have no future at Liverpool

Nunez has scored 37 goals with 21 assists in 122 appearances for Liverpool across all competitions, which is an abysmal return for a player who will cost upwards of £85million when all is said and done.

The transfer speculation is in full flow on Merseyside, and alarm bells were ringing around Anfield after David Ornstein reported on Thursday (9 January) that the Reds are preparing to move for Napoli forward Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.

While the rumours have tickled the fancy of the supporters, the attention immediately turned to Nunez after a “bang average” display in the FA Cup.

One supporter cited Danns’ goal as “embarrassing” for Nunez, writing: “Nunez it’s time to go genuinely how you aren’t even scoring whilst starting, and an 18-year-old who only plays cup games is outplaying you [are] genuinely embarrassing [Liverpool] really need to sell Nunez even for £30m.”

The consensus remained the same among all Reds supporters on social media, with fans begging the club to sell the forward, with one suggesting he should be sent “to Azkaban” after firing another blank against inferior opposition.

Nunez has proven to be a Marmite player among Reds supporters – he is either loved or hated.

Regardless of popular opinion, seeing a way back for Nunez at Anfield after another non-existent outing is hard.

Slot may well be considering his options with the January transfer window open.
