Liverpool fans react to Elon Musk takeover rumours – ‘Horrendous’
Liverpool fans are split over a potential Elon Musk takeover.
The controversial businessman was linked with a bid for the Reds in Weekend Sport’s print edition (4 January) and speculation went into overdrive after an interview with his father on Times Radio.
Reports later emerged from The Times journalist Matt Lawton that Fenway Sports Group has no intention of selling the Anfield club.
However, supporters are divided on the Tesla founder, while most are vehemently against the idea, some others are in favour.
Musk goes against everything Liverpool stands for
The wealthiest individual in the world is a controversial figure but some Reds supporters would welcome the move, one fan commented in a post on X, saying: “Elon Musk buying Liverpool might be the answer to our lack of spending.”
However, the majority of the fanbase is against it, one supporter commented: “Been a Red since 1964. If Musk were to buy Liverpool Football Club. That would be the end of a love affair. Shanks would turn in his grave.”

The SpaceX owner is worth an estimated $421 billion [Forbes] but he is not the right fit for the Merseyside outfit.
His ties to right-wing figures like Donald Trump would not sit right with the majority of the fanbase.
Liverpool is primarily a left-wing and socialist city and local fans would not accept a person associated with those people and values to be the custodian of their pride and joy.
FSG may be frustrating but it is simply unfathomable to think of the idea of Musk turning such a historic club into his personal propaganda machine.
