Liverpool youth star Rio Ngumoha to be named on bench v Southampton – report
Rio Ngumoha is set to be named on the Liverpool bench for the EFL Cup quarter-final with Southampton, according to a report from Academy Scoop.
The 16-year-old arrived at the Reds with a lot of fanfare in the summer, his capture from Chelsea’s academy was seen as a massive coup.
In fact, it caused a lot of tension with both clubs banning scouts from attending youth team matches, in a move that was reportedly initiated by the Blues as a result of losing Ngumoha. [The Athletic, 16 October]
The promising talent was reportedly lured to the Reds by the promise of a pathway to first-team football and it seems like he will not have to wait too long if he is named on the bench on Wednesday (18 December).
Liverpool talent Ngumoha could make senior debut
The former Chelsea talent could make his senior debut despite not even making his debut for under-21s yet.
He is regarded as one of the best talents in the country in his age group and has been spotted training with the first-team on numerous occasions.
Even if he does not make his debut in the clash on Wednesday, it is surely only a matter of time before he does.

The youngster has featured 13 times for the Reds under-18s, notching four assists and showing off his blistering pace and dribbling abilities.
Now, he will hope to get on the pitch and show Arne Slot that he should be in his plans on a regular basis with a good performance against a Southampton side that is lacking in confidence.
Being in and around the first-team squad can only benefit his development in the long-term and if he makes a good impression it could be the start of something sepcial.
