Finance Expert: Liverpool could be owed compensation if Manchester City found guilty
Liverpool are “in the mix” to potentially receive compensation from the Manchester City court case, Dan Plumley has said.
The Reds currently sit on top of the Premier League table and have shown no signs of slowing down since the arrival of Arne Slot.
Speaking exclusively to Liverpool News, the football finance expert shared an insight into whether Liverpool could be owed any money if the Cityzens are proven guilty.
“Yeah absolutely and we’ve seen you know that kind of media articles around the four clubs that are lining up for legal challenges linked to compensation,” Plumley said.
“Liverpool are one of those, Spurs, Arsenal and Manchester United are the others so it’s there and it’s absolutely a thing that could happen depending on the way that the case goes, Liverpool will be one of those in that mix for sure.
“We could be set for fairly hefty legal challenges depending on which way it goes so Liverpool will have a vested interest in that for sure.”
Liverpool could once again pip Manchester City to the Premier League title
The 2024/25 season has likely gone far better than most fans anticipated, especially because Jurgen Klopp left at the end of last term.
The Reds are currently the only team in the Champions League to have remained unbeaten in the league stage and have received around £22.4million for their escapades in Europe’s premier competition thus far.
Many fans thought this term would be one where Slot would be getting to grips with the league and the Reds would fall short of the title.
Instead, things couldn’t have been any different as, aside from their loss to Nottingham Forest, Slot’s men have been one of the most dominant teams in the league.

Of course, there’s still the overarching worry that Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah could all exit Anfield by the end of the term but with the way things are going at the club at the moment, it feels like they’d be silly to leave.
If the Reds can earn some compensation from City’s court case, they could put the funding they’d receive towards some new arrivals in order to bolster their ranks further and increase their dominance.
