View: Arne Slot will be a relieved man as decision made on Liverpool duo tonight

Liverpool manager Arne Slot can be forgiven as two of his key players were not named in the starting line-up on international duty on Tuesday.

Ryan Gravenberch and Cody Gakpo both were named on the bench for the Netherlands’ final Nations League clash with Bosnia and Herzegovina.

While it is always nice to see Reds players doing well on the international stage, you also don’t want to see key players getting hurt, especially with a trip to Southampton to prepare for on Sunday (24 November).

A deserved rest for Liverpool stars Gravenberch and Gakpo

The Dutchmen have both been impactful players for the Reds this season, with Gravenberch completely flipping the script on his reputation.

The 22-year-old who signed from Bayern Munich in the summer of 2023 was regarded as a flop after his first season in England was riddled with injuries and inconsistency but has looked brilliant playing in a deeper role under Arne Slot.

He has shone in the new system dominating defensively and driving forward in attack when necessary, if he maintains his form he could be in the running for the Premier League Player of the Season award.

Meanwhile, Gakpo has been a bit-part player often sharing game time with Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez.

He has managed to notch eight goal contributions in 17 matches in all competitions, although four came in the EFL Cup matches against West Ham and Brighton.

Regardless of whether his players get onto the pitch or not, Slot will relieved that they are not starting and can get a rest before a tough match at the weekend when club football returns.
