Liverpool eye player-plus-cash offer for Antonee Robinson – report

Liverpool are prepared to offer Kostas Tsimikas in a player-plus-cash offer to sign Fulham full-back Antonee Robinson, TBR Football reports.

According to the news outlet’s website [15 November], the Reds are long-term admirers of the Everton academy prospect and are looking to offer a player in return to lower the £40 million asking price.

Tsimikas would represent a like-for-like swap for the full-backs and while the Greek international has enjoyed an Anfield resurgence under Arne Slot this term, at 28, is not viewed as the long-term successor to Andy Robertson.

Liverpool want to sign Fulham left-back Antonee Robinson

Richard Hughes suffered the wrath of disgruntled Liverpool supporters after a quiet first transfer window in charge as sporting director and will need to make moves in the upcoming windows to appease the fan base.

A long-term replacement for Robertson, who will turn 31 this season, has already been identified as a priority for the Reds hierarchy with due diligence already underway to identify the ideal replacement.

However, Liverpool prefers to recruit from within the Premier League to avoid the unpredictability aspect of adjusting to life in England, as already seen with Darwin Nunez and Federico Chiesa and no better fit for the club’s current needs exists outside the top six than Robinson.

The 27-year-old is considerably older than the desired age range at Anfield, with the Reds historically targeting players under the age of 24, under now CEO of football Michael Edwards but with both left-backs approaching the twilight years of their careers he may not be the only addition.

Robertson has proven on numerous occasions this season that his relentless work-rate is catching up to his age, for Tsimikas, he is yet to truly take the mantle from his teammate after four years on Merseyside.

Robinson has slowly developed into one of the most esteemed full-backs in the division in West London and next summer may very well be his last opportunity to make his long-awaited move to a top side – send Tsimikas the other way to Craven Cottage and the deal could benefit all parties.

Then Liverpool could turn their attention to a younger profile to be the understudy to the American international and potentially Robertson, such as Bournemouth’s Milo Kerkez and the left-back position would be secure for the foreseeable future.
