Liverpool confirm Quansah international news with official announcement
Liverpool have confirmed Jarell Quansah has been called up to the England senior side for the upcoming round of international fixtures.
The 21-year-old was due to link up with the Under-21s for the international break but was promoted after Everton defender Jarred Branthwaite was forced to withdraw from the squad.
The Reds confirmed the news via their official X account on Wednesday (13 November).
Trent Alexander-Arnold is one of nine players forced to pull out of international duty, which will see Quansah potentially suit up for Lee Carsley’s side to face Greece and the Republic of Ireland.
Jarell Quansah can use England call-up to stake his Liverpool claim
Quansah emerged into the first-team fold at Liverpool as a relatively unknown academy prospect and flourished under Jurgen Klopp.
However, his fortunes this year have drastically changed with the centre-back resigned to Carabao Cup appearances since his half-time removal in the 2-0 win against Ipswich Town in the Premier League opener.
Although he conceded an own goal in the 5-1 win against West Ham United at Anfield and was culpable for both goals conceded in the 3-2 win against Brighton in the following round, Arne Slot admitted he was “unlucky” on the night.
Ibrahima Konate reclaimed his spot in the starting lineup on the opening day and has shown no signs he is ready to relinquish his place to Quansah, while he has forged a formidable partnership with Virgil van Dijk thus far.
This could be one of the few opportunities Quansah has to send a statement of intent to Slot and also place him in good stead for further senior international involvement.
Liverpool face a daunting fixture schedule upon the return of club football and, given Konate’s injury history, the Frenchman will not be expected to feature every three days.
Therefore, Quansah must take this opportunity with both hands to prove to Slot he can deputise and even challenge Konate in the coming weeks after seemingly falling behind Joe Gomez in the pecking order at Anfield.
