Liverpool monitor Alexander Isak as Newcastle United stance emerges – report

Liverpool are keeping tabs on Alexander Isak amid his contract standoff with Newcastle United, according to TBR Football.

The news outlet reported on Tuesday [12 November] via its website, that the forward’s entourage is disgruntled over Newcastle’s stance in the ongoing contract negotiations.

Isak had been set to join Bruno Guimaraes and Anthony Gordon in extending his stay at St James Park but the talks have since reached an impasse with a supposed release clause one of many factors hindering the deal.

Liverpool have been monitoring the situation as it progresses ahead of a potential move in the summer transfer window if Newcastle are resigned to selling their star striker.

Alexander Isak is the perfect signing for Liverpool

While Liverpool head into the international break top of the Premier League and Champions League table, the failings of the summer still rest in the back of the supporters’ minds.

Richard Hughes had a remarkably underwhelming first off-season as sporting director, failing to convince Martin Zubimendi to leave Real Sociedad for Anfield and signing Federico Chiesa from Juventus, who has not featured since the 5-1 win against West Ham United in the Carabao Cup.

The Reds arguably have more pressing matters at hand with Virgil van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Mohamed Salah in the final year of their contracts but Hughes cannot afford another hit-and-miss transfer window next summer.

Diogo Jota has continued his injury woes at Anfield this year after beginning the campaign as the undisputed number 9 and question marks persist on Darwin Nunez despite his goal in the 2-0 win against Aston Villa on Saturday [9 November].

Liverpool are notorious for preferring Premier League experience in big-money acquisitions and should Slot decide he needs a new focal point for the attack – none come better than Isak.

The 25-year-old scored 21 goals in 30 league appearances last term and has recently rediscovered his form, scoring in each of his last four outings for Newcastle.

Isak clearly sees his long-term future away from the North East, otherwise, a release clause would not be entertained in his contract discussions and a 20+ goal-a-year forward is exactly what is missing from the Reds frontline.

This deal makes far too much sense for Hughes to ignore and if there is a sense he will push for a move from Newcastle, Liverpool simply must knock down the door to bring him to Merseyside.
