View: 88% gem dazzles v Aston Villa, he could win Premier League title for Liverpool
Tony Cascarino believes Liverpool could win the Premier League this season if Darwin Nunez is clinical in front of goal.
The Uruguayan opened the scoring against Aston Villa in the 2-0 win at Anfield on Saturday [9 November] as the Reds extended a five-point gap to Manchester City at the top of the league.
However, Nunez missed another clear-cut chance to double the lead before Mohamed Salah decided the contest.
Cascarino said live on talkSPORT [10 November, 6:09am] that he believes the forward could be the deciding factor in the Premier League title this term.
He said: “If he’s clinical, they win the league. If he gets goals as well, 15 goals plus in a season, Liverpool can win the league. Because he gives another dimension to Liverpool.”
Darwin Nunez is facing a make-or-break year at Liverpool
While the 25-year-old has somewhat disappointed since his club-record acquisition from Benfica, many supporters still cling to the hope, that Nunez will become a world-class striker at Anfield.
However, once Diogo Jota returns from injury he will likely lose his place in the side and ultimately his place in the squad if he is unable to make an impact under Arne Slot this year.
Nunez is arguably the most unpredictable forward in world football and this precedent was on full display on Saturday (9 November).
He had three shots on target, two shots off target, and one shot blocked [Sofascore] on the way to scoring his third goal across all competitions.
Furthermore, he missed one big chance, was successful in his only attempted dribble throughout the match, and completed 88 per cent of his passes.

He did, however, lose 75 per cent of his balls, lost possession five times, and committed two fouls on the night as his influence on proceedings wavered as the match wore on.
Nunez can no longer be referred to as the nearly-man at Liverpool – it is time to show what he can do in the Premier League before drastic action is taken.
Arne Slot has already proven his ruthlessness this year with Jarell Quansah and the same fate awaits Nunez if he doesn’t start finding the back of the net consistently at Anfield.
In other Liverpool news, Arne Slot will be ecstatic as one Reds star prepares for a potential international landmark.
