Taylor Hinds shares ‘Tough’ Liverpool Women’s verdict after win v Aston Villa

Taylor Hinds admitted it has been a “tough” start to the season for Liverpool Women but praised the side’s character after the 2-1 win against Aston Villa.

The Reds picked up their second win of the season at the Bescot Stadium on Sunday [3 November], with Hinds single-handedly claiming the three points after a first-half brace.

Liverpool Women have struggled at the start of the season, but Hinds revealed to the club’s official website [4 November] that she feels they are now ready to turn the corner in the Women’s Super League.

She said: “As a collective we all support each other, we all motivate each other. We’ve just got to stick through it until the end. We did that and the character of the team was unbelievable.

“It gives us that motivation for the next game. Obviously we’ve got a tough game next weekend.

“It has been hard this season. We knew it was going to be tough as well. But we’ve got high standards for ourselves and we want those three points. We’ve just got to keep fighting.”

Liverpool Women can put up a fight against Chelsea

Matt Beard has been openly critical of his side’s mentality throughout an underwhelming string of results this term. However, there is hope heading into the clash against Chelsea at the St Helens Stadium.

The Reds went toe-to-toe with Manchester City at Anfield earlier this year only for a Khadija Shaw brace, including a 92nd-minute winner, to deny the hosts the three points after Olivia Smith opened the scoring with a sensational long-range strike.

Liverpool proved in that game that despite the result, the squad is more than capable of competing against the best in the WSL and the side could prove to be formidable opponents against last year’s champions.

Beard has mooted he will be looking to add further reinforcements in the January transfer window, but with Cornelia Kapocs and Smith among the goals since their summer arrivals, there is plenty of firepower within the current crop of players to record a shock result on Sunday [10 November].

The boss must have more faith in his squad. As Hinds said, the relationship between the players is stronger than ever despite the results and their eagerness to work hard for each other is a rare sight to see in the modern game.

Chelsea have picked up exactly where they left off last year with a 100 per cent record in the WSL – this will surely be Liverpool Women’s biggest test this season but one they cannot be written off from just yet.
