Finance Expert: Real Madrid prepared to offer Alexander-Arnold better contract than Liverpool

Real Madrid will be able to match or better any contract offer Liverpool can make Trent Alexander-Arnold, according to football finance expert Dan Plumley.

Reports suggest that the Spanish and European giants have made the England international a priority target as he enters the final few months of his current contract at Anfield [The Athletic, 16 October].

Although there remains a chance the 25-year-old could put pen to paper on a contract extension with the Reds, Plumley insists that Arne Slot’s side will be “wary” of the early interest from Carlo Ancelotti’s side.

“If there’s always one club that can do that, it’s Real Madrid,” Plumley exclusively told Liverpool News.

“We’ve seen them do that time and time again, haven’t we? We knew Kylian Mbappe was going there and look at that deal.

“Same with Jude Bellingham and we’ve seen it in the past with the superstars that they’ve had.

Will Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold exit Anfield amid Real Madrid transfer interest?

Plumley added: “So when you’re looking at transfer moves in particular, even if you’ve got a very strong bargaining position as Liverpool and other clubs in the Premier League do, you are still wary of clubs like Real Madrid in the market.

“Ultimately, they are the ones that get those deals done and sometimes it doesn’t make too much of an issue to them financially what the deal may be.

“So I’m sure Liverpool are wary of that.”

Liverpool will of course be reluctant to lose one of their best players just as he begins to enter his prime, but they will also be eager to remain within their financial means and not make a contract offer that could harm future negotiations.

Alexander-Arnold is rightly regarded as one of the most exciting talents in world football and it is only natural that clubs like Real Madrid are keeping a close eye on him ahead of the summer transfer window.

Ultimately, Liverpool have to show the defender that Anfield is the right place for him to continue his career, rather than the Spanish capital.
