‘Goodbye’ – Bent expects Liverpool ace to leave after what he’s told live on air

Darren Bent expects Trent Alexander-Arnold to leave Liverpool next summer after learning he is a priority target for Real Madrid.

The Athletic reported the news on Wednesday [16 October], with Alexander-Arnold leading a list consisting of Pedro Porro and Jeremy Frimpong to become the new starting right-back at Real Madrid.

TalkSPORT co-host Andy Goldstein discussed the latest update with Bent live on air [17 October, 4:53pm], with the pair in agreement on their verdict on Alexander-Arnold’s future at the Reds.

Goldstein said: “We all know what that usually means.”

Bent replied: “Goodbye.”

Liverpool face a fight to hang on to Trent Alexander-Arnold

Over 12 months since the Liverpool PR wheel was in full spin as Jude Bellingham was touted with a move to Anfield from Borussia Dortmund, the Champions League winner could be tempting his England teammate to join him in Spain.

The 21-year-old opted to continue his career away from England to become the latest Galactico after rumours emerged Jordan Henderson and Alexander-Arnold had been trying to push him to join them on Merseyside.

Bellingham went on to beat his former side to lift the Champions League last term and the guarantee of trophies with Real Madrid could be a deciding factor for Trent in his potential decision to leave his boyhood club at the end of the season.

Michael Owen and Steve McManaman made the same choice, with varying degrees of success, considering how the pair are now viewed by the Liverpool faithful, and Trent could be burning his bridges should he decide to leave the club empty-handed and move to Madrid.

While the Reds’ hierarchy is to be blamed for leaving the club in a position where Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah and Trent could all depart for free next year, there is no doubt the vice-captain will have a lucrative proposal in front of him, and likely one that would see him become one of the highest earners.

Ultimately, the decision is in the hands of the player. He will go down as a generational talent once he hangs up his boots and no one can deny he deserves to be competing for the highest honours each season.

For now, whether Arne Slot can deliver a satisfactory level of success remains to be seen. However, the growing feeling Trent will leave for LaLiga may guarantee a healthy trophy cabinet when he retires but his ties with Liverpool could be damaged beyond repair.
