View: Liverpool must resolve 81% Trent Alexander-Arnold contract situation after what he did for England
Liverpool must find a way to tie Trent Alexander-Arnold to a new long-term deal after his performance for England in their shock 2-1 defeat to Greece at Wembley.
The 26-year-old has been handed the reigns for the national side by interim manager Lee Carsley and lined up in his preferred right-back spot at Wembley on Thursday [10 October].
Alexander-Arnold spent most of Euro 2024 under Gareth Southgate on the bench, the former Three Lions boss opted to utilise the Scouser in midfield and then not at all after the group stage of the competition.
Despite the shock loss to Greece on Thursday, Alexander-Arnold produced a stellar performance sending a stark warning to the Reds about what they will be missing if Richard Hughes fails to extend his stay at Anfield.
Liverpool cannot afford to lose Trent Alexander-Arnold
The full-back has not been shy about his desire to win trophies, whether that be at Anfield or elsewhere, but one certainty is Alexander-Arnold is at his most effective from right-back.
After countless England snubs and constant criticism regarding his ability to defend, the Reds vice-captain has a lot to prove to win over his doubters and he is doing just that so far this season.
As per Sofascore, against Greece, he won 50 per cent of his duels, and made one interception and two tackles down the right flank albeit against inferior opposition but a solid all-around defensive performance from a player that supposedly cannot defend.
In the Premier League, Alexander-Arnold ranks in the top 84 percentile for tackles won, 78 percentile for recoveries, and 77 percentile for shots blocked among all defenders in the top flight [Fotmob].

Alexander-Arnold is undoubtedly more effective from the flanks wherein he can implement the most powerful tools in his game, against Greece he completed 81.25 per cent of his long balls, and 82 per cent of his passes with four key passes and one big chance created [Sofascore].
In comparison with his peers, the Reds man is in the top 99 percentile for progressive passes with 8.48 per 90 minutes and 98 percentile for completed passes with 84.02 per 90, his ability on the ball is arguably the best in world football.

The midfield experiment was a resounding failure, but his ability to produce those numbers from the full-back position is unlike anything the sport has ever seen and arguably will ever see again.
Alexander-Arnold is a generational talent and better yet, for Liverpool fans, he’s one of their own. Hughes must pull out all the stops, give Trent anything he wants, and ensure that one of the best footballing talents to come from the city of Liverpool does not follow in Steve McManaman’s footsteps and join Real Madrid.
