Finance expert reacts as £30m update emerges at Liverpool after Taylor Swift concerts
Liverpool will have pocketed “very little” of the £30million Taylor Swift’s tour earned the local economy, according to football finance expert Dan Plumley.
Reports suggest that the local economy on Merseyside pocketed an eight-figure windfall from the pop star’s three appearances at Anfield as part of her Eras Tour during the off-season [Four Four Two, 17 September].
Although the Reds will have already agreed to a set fee to host all three concerts, Plumley admits that at best, only a small portion of that £30million will have found its way to Arne Slot’s side this summer.
“There will be very little for Liverpool in that in truth,” Plumley told Liverpool News.
“The way that those surveys are usually made up and what they’re targeting is spending in and around the city region, mostly from tourists.
“So how many nights are they spending in hotels? How much are they spending on food and drink? How much are they spending on associated merchandise, which is probably mostly Taylor Swift in this regard?
“Liverpool will have likely taken a fee to host these events and maybe benefited from the exposure and publicity.
“Maybe a little bit of Liverpool merchandise has gone into that mix, but the bulk of that figure when you talk about the impact on the local economy, you’re mostly talking about tourists coming in.
“So the amount of monetary value that will go to Liverpool is likely very small and might not have even been included in that figure.
“It might have already been separated out elsewhere.”
How much did Liverpool earn from Taylor Swift concerts at Anfield?
Although Liverpool may not have received much of the £30million the local economy pocketed this summer, they will have still earned a pretty penny from hosting Swift’s concerts during the off-season.

With profit and sustainability rules as severe as they currently are in the Premier League, the Reds simply cannot ignore any potential revenue streams that they can access, whether that be at Anfield or away from Merseyside.
Hopefully, Slot will have money to spend to bolster his ranks in the January transfer window if he feels as though he needs a couple of extra additions after a quiet summer.
