Sky Sports share training ground footage as Liverpool v Bologna injury update emerges
Vinnie O’Connor has provided the latest Liverpool injury update ahead of the Champions League clash with Bologna on Wednesday 2 October.
The Reds welcome the Italian side to Anfield as Champions League football returns to Merseyside.
O’Connor reported for Sky Sports [1 October, 12:17pm] live from the AXA Training Centre to provide the latest update on Diogo Jota and Federico Chiesa ahead of the European clash.
He said: “He [Jota] picked up a bit of a foot injury. Now, what we’re told is that he’s had a scan, that the scan’s come back clear but he’s just not training today.
“There’s still a possibility he could be involved against Bologna but think perhaps the likelihood is Darwin Nunez will get the opportunity to start against Bologna – the other absentee at the minute as well Federico Chiesa.
“We’re not quite sure exactly what the situation is as regards him.”
Darwin Nunez afforded unlikely Liverpool chance
The day that all Liverpool fans have waited for after spending a year playing Europa League football is finally upon us.
Arne Slot began his first Champions League campaign at the Anfield helm in winning fashion with a 3-1 victory against AC Milan at the San Siro.
While on paper, the Reds will face inferior Serie A opposition on Wednesday, elimination from the Europa League at the hands of Atalanta last season, who won the competition, should warn the side not to underestimate Italian opposition.
Jota was instrumental in the 2-1 win against Wolves on the weekend but it was only a matter of time before the injuries returned, fingers crossed that for once, it is not a lengthy absence for the forward.
Nunez was outmuscled by his teammate in the 5-1 win against West Ham United in the Carabao Cup however, the Uruguayan will be afforded no better opportunity to prove himself to Slot and must take this opportunity before it slips away.
All Liverpool fans are desperate for the 25-year-old to become a success at Anfield but the chances are decreasing with each match without a goal and he is facing a make-or-break campaign, it is truly now or never for the forward.
