View: Konate decision to be made, five changes – Liverpool predicted XI v Bologna

Arne Slot is expected to make five changes to his Liverpool side when Bologna travels to Anfield on Wednesday 2 October.

The boss will face his first Champions League clash for the Reds under the lights in L4 after the 3-1 win against AC Milan at the San Siro to begin the campaign.

Slot will be expected to ring in the changes to compete on all fronts for Liverpool with a decision to be made on Ibrahima Konate, who stole the headlines in the 2-1 win against Wolves on Saturday [28 September] for his miscommunication with Alisson allowing the hosts to equalise at Molineux.

Liverpool to rotate the side against Bologna

Alisson returned to the side on the weekend after missing the 3-0 win against Bournemouth through injury and should retain his place in the Liverpool goal.

Trent-Alexander Arnold and Virgil van Dijk should line up for the return of Champions League football to Anfield. Konate is expected to miss out, the Frenchman came under intense scrutiny for his role in the Wolves goal on Saturday, with Jarell Quansah returning to the starting lineup.

Andy Robertson came off the pitch at Molineux with fresh injury concerns, Slot will be expected to not risk another 90 minutes for the left-back with Kostas Tsimikas resuming his role as deputy.

Ryan Gravenberch is undroppable for the Reds, the difference when the 22-year-old is in the side emulates the impact of Fabinho at the peak of his powers and should continue his fine form on Wednesday with his usual partner Alexis Mac Allister on the left of the midfield three.

Dominik Szoboszlai endured another worrying display against Wolves, his form is quickly becoming a cause of concern among Liverpool fans. The Hungarian should be dropped to the bench to be fresh for the weekend clash against Crystal Palace with Curtis Jones taking the reins.

Mohamed Salah would be furious to miss out against Bologna and should start. Federico Chiesa is still reaching full match fitness and the Italian will surely have a role to play on Wednesday against familiar opposition.

Darwin Nunez was absent from the matchday squad against Wolves with illness. While Diogo Jota was set to lead the line after his brace against West Ham United in the 5-1 win in the Carabao Cup, Nunez should get his chance against Bologna. If, he has returned from illness.

Cody Gakpo also scored a brace against West Ham, the Dutchman was unfortunate to miss out on Saturday. Luis Diaz had a quiet game compared to the standards set at the start of the season and he should get a much-needed rest against Bologna with Gakpo to start on the left flank.
