View: Ben Doak has huge Liverpool future after what Michael Carrick said – ‘Dangerous’

Ben Doak will have a big future at Liverpool after the “dangerous” forward scored his first professional goal for Middlesborough.

The 18-year-old opened the scoring in the 2-0 win against Stoke City at the Riverside Stadium on Saturday [28 September] to get off the mark in his Championship loan spell.

Michael Carrick lauded the forward after the match, as reported by The Mirror [28 September], and revealed he expects Doak to turn the corner after opening his account at first-team level.

He said: “He looked dangerous and might have got another goal or even two. He showed what he is about and is a real threat.

“He had an impact. He is young, but he has the character and personality, and he has come here keen to develop. I wasn’t surprised. I was pleased to see what he could do.”

Ben Doak is in the best place for his Liverpool development

Doak has seemingly turned a corner in his development after last season’s disappointment with injuries. Liverpool will have a serious young talent in the ranks if he continues at Middlesbrough as expected.

The Scottish winger made his international debut for the senior side at the beginning of September after missing out on the Euro 2024 squad this summer as he nursed a long-term injury.

Now with his first professional goal at senior level under his belt, the Reds will be relieved they turned down approaches from Southampton and Leicester this summer to sell the forward in a permanent transfer.

Liverpool are well-stocked in the attacking department after the arrival of Federico Chiesa from Juventus this summer, with six forward options at Arne Slot’s disposal.

However, with Mohamed Salah in the final 12 months of his contract and Darwin Nunez struggling for regular minutes this season, there will be an opportunity for Doak to force his way into the plans for next season if he can continue to impress at Middlesbrough.

Harvey Elliott established himself as a first-team regular after a successful spell at Blackburn Rovers, Tyler Morton is now with the squad after his impressive performances for Hull City last season. The path is there for Doak.

He is certainly showing a desire to develop in North Yorkshire, Doak has enjoyed a season of landmarks already this term and must push on and continue to impress in the Championship.
