8/10 Diogo Jota haunts former club – Liverpool player ratings v Wolves

Arne Slot will consider himself lucky as Liverpool scraped to a 2-1 win against Wolves on Saturday 28 September at Molineux.

Ibrahima Konate came to the rescue of the Reds in first-half stoppage time, meeting a Diogo Jota cross to head the first goal past Sam Johnstone.

The Frenchman turned villain in the second half, his miscommunication with Alisson allowed Rayan Ait-Nouri to equalise for the hosts against the run of play.

However, Jota was on hand again to win a penalty for the Reds five minutes later which Mohamed Salah dispatched to secure the three points on the road.

Here’s how Liverpool News rated each player out of 10 at Molineux, with all stats from Sofascore.

Liverpool beat Wolves 2-1

Alisson – 6

Alisson once again conceded a goal from one clear-cut chance against Wolves. It is becoming a bad habit for the Brazilian who only needed to make two saves throughout the 90 minutes. This time it was seemingly the fault of Konate but the lack of communication led to the Wolves equaliser.

Trent Alexander-Arnold – 6

Trent received a silly yellow card on six minutes for kicking the ball away and that incident set the tone for his performance. The right-back failed with 64 per cent of his long balls and 60 per cent of his crosses. He ended the match with only 74 per cent pass accuracy and lost possession 22 times.

Ibrahima Konate – 5

Konate opened the scoring but ruined all his hard work in the second half. He made one error for the Wolves goal, failed to complete any of his four long ball attempts, won only 50 per cent of his ground duels, and lost possession eight times.

Virgil van Dijk – 6

The captain had little to do defensively and was his usual self on the ball, completing 93 per cent of passes and 55 per cent of his long balls.

Andy Robertson [off for Joe Gomez 89′] – 6

Robertson was unlucky not to add an assist to his Premier League record when Szoboszlai failed to convert from point-blank range from his cross. The left-back tried to make things happen with one key pass, 25 per cent long ball completion, and 33 cross completion but it was a frustrating afternoon all around for the Liverpool defence.

Ryan Gravenberch continues to boss the midfield for Liverpool

Ryan Gravenberch – 8

The Dutchman continues to excel at the anchor of the Liverpool midfield. Gravenberch won 100 per cent of his duels at Molineux and completed 92 per cent of his passes in a dominant display from the midfielder.

Alexis Mac Allister – 6

Mac Allister produced an okay performance at Molineux, nothing outstanding but capable enough. He completed 85 per cent of his passes with one key pass, he completed his one cross attempt, and 50 per cent of his long balls.

Dominik Szoboszlai [off for Curtis Jones 73′] – 5

Szoboszlai missed one big chance with his only shot on target against Wolves, firing his point-blank effort straight at the goalkeeper from a Robertson cross. The Hungarian had yet another unnoteworthy performance with 87 per cent pass accuracy and winning only 50 per cent of his duels.

Mohamed Salah – 7

The Egyptian was back to his regular self on Saturday with his penalty securing the three points for the Reds. Salah won 50 per cent of his duels, 66 per cent of his dribbles, and had two shots on target with two key passes in a lively afternoon for the forward.

Diogo Jota – 9

Jota returned to Molineux to haunt his former side as he proved to be the difference maker for the Reds. He got one assist, won the penalty for Salah, made one key pass, and completed 50 per cent of his dribbles and 100 per cent of his crosses.

Luis Diaz [off for Cody Gakpo 73′] – 5

Diaz had a surprisingly poor outing at Molineux after his recent goalscoring exploits in the Premier League. He ended the afternoon with a zero per cent success rate in both dribbles and crossing attempts, lost 84 per cent of his duels, and lost possession 10 times. A poor afternoon for the Colombian forward.
