Don Goodman shares Liverpool ‘Concern’ verdict about exit-linked ace
Don Goodman believes that Liverpool should be concerned about the interest in Trent Alexander-Arnold from Real Madrid.
The defender’s contract runs out at the end of the 2024/25 season and, at the time of writing, an extension doesn’t yet look to be lined up.
Alexander-Arnold has been pivotal to the Reds’ squad in recent years and, as his contract length has dwindled, Real’s interest has increased with Carlo Ancelotti even “monitoring” his situation [Fabrizio Romano, 17 July] during the summer window.
Speaking exclusively to Liverpool News about the “dilemma” Alexander-Arnold is facing, Goodman shared his thoughts on the situation.
“There’s always a situation that he could leave, and the fact he’s being heavily linked with Real Madrid is a concern for Liverpool fans,” he said. “Real Madrid are a club that will turn heads – we’ve seen that countless times down the years.”
“So it will be a concern. He knows if he goes to Spain he’ll win trophies, and if he stays with Liverpool, there’s a possibility of doing so but it’s a lot harder to do so in this country than it is for Real Madrid in Spain.
“So it’s a dilemma only he can answer. He’s a Liverpool lad, a Liverpool fan, and you hope that’s what keeps him at Liverpool”.
Liverpool need to extend contract of Trent Alexander-Arnold
The Arne Slot era of Liverpool is now in full swing and the Reds will no doubt be looking to compete for the title.
The Merseyside outfit have only lost one Premier League game so far and look to be out for vengeance from the previous seasons.
It goes without saying that the club’s top priority this term should be to renew the contracts of Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Alexander-Arnold.
All three of their deals run out at the end of the season but of the three, the latter would likely be the hardest to replace.

The fact that Alexander-Arnold has managed to come through the academy and play as many games and win as many trophies as he has for the senior squad is almost unbelievable.
Trophies are key to the defender’s renewal as he admitted himself, so the Reds really need to be on top form this season if they want him to extend his stay.
