Trent Alexander-Arnold shares trophy admission amid Liverpool contract uncertainty
Trent Alexander-Arnold has revealed winning trophies will be the deciding factor on whether he extends his Liverpool contract.
Trent has entered the final year of his deal at Anfield alongside Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah and should the situation remain the same heading into the New Year he will be free to negotiate a transfer away from the Reds.
The England international did little to ease the supporters’ concerns about his expiring contract with his comments, as reported by This is Anfield [23 September] after the 3-0 win against Bournemouth.
He said: “I want to be a Liverpool player this season [as a minimum] is what I will say.”
The 25-year-old was then asked what the deciding factor in his future will be: “The most important thing is always trophies. I want to win trophies.
“I’m a player who is highly motivated by winning things and being elite. That’s probably the main factor of anything.
“If you have a personality that’s elite, who wants to win and will do anything to win then that’s what drives them.”
Liverpool need to prioritise Trent Alexander-Arnold contract
Trent has lived every Liverpool fan’s dream winning everything on offer for his boyhood club and has earned the right to decide where his future lies at the end of the season.
While seeing the right-back sport the jersey of another club would be like a dagger through the heart, he has established himself as one of the best players in world football on Merseyside, and the club needs to match his ambition.
It has not been an easy journey for Trent on his quest to win every trophy on offer, Liverpool were bested on the final day to win the Premier League twice by Manchester City, lost the Europa League final to Sevilla in 2016, and lost two Champions League finals to Real Madrid under Jurgen Klopp.
That is five more trophies the defender could have added to his illustrious collection and with the jury still out on whether Arne Slot will be able to replicate his predecessor’s achievements, it is understandable Trent would need more assurances before committing his future to Anfield.

The Reds lifted the Carabao Cup last season but unfortunately, domestic success in the form of the League Cup and FA Cup do not hold the same glamour of days gone by with Premier League and Champions League success the priority for England’s top sides.
Losing Trent on a free transfer regardless of the player’s intention, is an incredible oversight by the Liverpool board and straight negligence. Real Madrid are expected to come knocking in the winter when he is free to negotiate a move and until his future is decided either way, all Liverpool fans will be nervously awaiting his decision.
