Mohamed Salah drops Liverpool exit hint after Manchester United heroics
Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has cast his future into doubt by declaring it his last season at the club following the 3-0 win against Manchester United on Sunday [1 September].
Salah is in the final year of his Liverpool contract and will be free to negotiate a move away from Anfield in January.
The Egyptian scored the third goal and assisted Luis Diaz for a brace in an excellent display at Old Trafford and speaking after the match he gave insight into where his future lies at the end of the season, stating no one at the club had spoken to him about his future.
“As you know, it’s my last year at the club,” he told Sky Sports as reported by The Athletic [1 September].
“I just want to enjoy it — I don’t want to think about it. I feel like I’m free to play football and we will see what can happen next year.”
This could be the final Liverpool season for Mohamed Salah
Salah will go down as one of the greatest players to wear the Liverpool shirt when he calls time on his Anfield career.
With 213 goals and 90 assists in 351 appearances for the Reds, it’s safe to say his move from AS Roma in 2017 has been a resounding success. The 32-year-old has rolled back the years for Arne Slot this season with three goals and three assists in three appearances in the Premier League.
It is downright incompetence from the club to allow one of the most decorated players of the Premier League era to enter the final year of his contract, and his latest words suggest the Reds are about to pay the price.
Liverpool rejected a £150m bid from Al-Ittihad for their talisman in 2023, while it was the smart decision to reject what would have been a club-record sale, losing the same player for free at the end of the season would be the biggest blunder of the Fenway Sports Group era.

CEO of football Michael Edwards and sporting director Richard Hughes will face a monumental decision in the coming months. Edwards notoriously is hesitant to offer big contracts to players over the age of 30 but, a special exception should be made in the case of Salah.
The same should be said for Virgil van Dijk, also in the final year of his contract and his vice-captain Trent Alexander-Arnold is also 12 months away from leaving Anfield if a new contract is not agreed upon.
Salah is right to treat this year as his final season on Merseyside with the club no closer to agreeing to a new contract with the forward, the fate of Liverpool football club rests on the decisions made on their three stars.
The sooner all three pen new deals at the Reds, the better.
