Fabrizio Romano shares what he’s heard on Marc Guehi to Liverpool

Fabrizio Romano has shared an update amid speculation linking Liverpool with a move for Crystal Palace centre-back Marc Guehi.

The Italian journalist reported via his Daily Briefing page [21 August] that, despite strong rumours, there is “nothing concrete” as of yet.

Guehi, who caught the eye for England at Euro 2024, has been the subject of three rejected bids from Newcastle United [Sky Sports, 16 August].

Liverpool are said to have shown an interest in the defender since February, but there has been no offer made by the Reds as of yet.

Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi a player in demand

Newcastle’s most recent bid was reported to be in the region of £65m, so clearly Palace value him extremely highly – and rightly so.

Guehi has youthfulness on his side yet also boasts experience at Premier League and international level.

In the days of Harry Maguire moving for £80m and Wesley Fofana for £70m, Palace cannot be blamed for wanting a fee in that sort of region for their prized asset.

However, Liverpool have showed this summer they will not be pressured into paying more than they believe a player is worth.

That will surely lead to an inevitable stand-off, with Palace not budging on their valuation and the Reds refusing to offer close to that amount.

It is looking increasingly likely that Arne Slot wants another centre-back, though, and if the club do not act fast, the window will close without a single signing being made.
