Liverpool eye shrewd Adrien Rabiot free transfer signing – report

Liverpool are targeting a move for former Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot, according to The Mirror.

Writing on their website [11 August], the outlet reported that Arne Slot has identified Rabiot as a shrewd midfield target to provide experience to his young squad.

The Reds are still awaiting a decision from Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi Dave OCKOP [8 August] and will now reportedly move for Rabiot to bolster the midfield options.

Manchester United also have the Frenchman on their wishlist and will have to fight their North-West rivals to bring the midfielder to the Premier League.

Liverpool target move for Adrien Rabiot

Liverpool signing Rabiot is a move that makes no sense in consideration of the current transfer policy at the club.

The Reds target players under 24 years old with over 100 top-flight appearances and the potential to develop into world-class stars at Anfield.

Thiago Alcantara and Wataru Endo were the latest signings outside of this bracket – one a fantastic opportunity to sign a world-class talent, the other a stop-gap option for a problem position that exceeded expectations.

Zubimendi has emerged as Slot’s priority target for central midfield and should the Euro 2024 winner sign on the dotted line, there is no more need for cover in that area.

Liverpool have identified Martin Zubimendi as their number one target

Curtis Jones, Ryan Gravenberch, Harvey Elliott and Trey Nyoni have excelled in pre-season under Slot and will provide the quality depth in midfield to challenge Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai.

Each Liverpool midfielder has a specific profile that offers a variety of options and it is hard to find a place for Rabiot among the current crop.

The Frenchman failed to live up to his early promise at Paris Saint-Germain and finally left Juventus after several years of flirting with an exit from Serie A.

He may very well have aspirations of playing in the Premier League, but it will surely not be at Anfield. The priority is Zubimendi and if confirmed, Liverpool will be well-stocked in midfield for the foreseeable future and can move on to target other positions this summer.
