Finance Expert: Liverpool is FSG flagship after brand new ownership update away from Anfield
Dan Plumley believes that multi-club models will now become the “template” for big clubs after Liverpool owners, Fenway Sports Group, pulled out of a takeover at Bordeaux.
FSG pulled out of their proposed takeover of the French club last month due to concerns about their finances [BBC Sport, 16 July].
This hasn’t, however, stopped the owners of the Reds from pursuing a multi-club model with Liverpool CEO Billy Hogan claiming they are still on the lookout for the right club [The Atheltic, 29 July].
“It’s the kind of template model that the biggest owners and some of the highest owners in the world are looking at and again you know we’ve seen FSG do that not just in football but other sports as well,” the football finance expert exclusively told Liverpool News.
“Liverpool will still be their flagship but the operations around it can contribute as well, so even if you miss out on one particular target there will be a list of several others underneath where you look to go next.
“These people are making smart moves in the market so they will have their next targets lined up and ready to go.
“And this is certainly part of the bigger strategy of it that doesn’t appear to be going away, as I say it’s going to be the template for some of the biggest clubs in the world and maybe for some others to follow suit.“
FSG ready new takeover away from Liverpool
FSG have been the owners of Liverpool for some time now and whilst some fans might not agree with the way things are run or the amount of money spent each window, they have been massively successful.
Chelsea are a clear example of financial management not working as the club seems to constantly be in the market for players who aren’t needed at the club.
And, whilst fans may believe that the Reds need more recruitment and more money put into the club, the fact that PSR breaches could entail from doing so, is quite a scary prospect.

Indeed, this is by no means giving the owners a free pass to not bolster their ranks but their running of the club is yet to steer the Reds the wrong way.
The club are readying itself for the Arne Slot era following the resignation of Jurgen Klopp and, if pre-season is anything to go by, fans could well be in for a treat.
In other Liverpool news, the Reds could already have the answer to their midfield problem residing in their ranks.
