Liverpool identify long-term Andy Robertson replacement, £13m bid needed – report

Liverpool are eyeing up a move for Lanus defender Julio Soler as a potential long-term replacement for Andy Robertson, according to the Daily Express.

Writing on their website [4 August], the outlet reported that Arne Slot is planning a move for Soler, who represented Argentina at the Olympics.

Lanus are open to discussing a deal with the Reds for the left-back and value Soler at £13million.

Liverpool planning for life after Andy Robertson

If any signing sums up CEO of football Michael Edwards’ tenure as sporting director, it is the deal to bring Robertson to Anfield in 2017.

The 30-year-old signed from Hull City for an initial £8m (BBC Sport) and established himself as one of the best left-backs of the Premier League era, with the highest amount of assists for a full-back in history, one ahead of teammate Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Robertson has been a mainstay of the Liverpool defence for the past six years, but as he approaches the twilight years of his career, the injuries are becoming a concern.

He missed 26 matches from the sidelines last season for club and country and is currently nursing an injury picked up at Euro 2024, seeing him sit out the entirety of the club’s pre-season tour of the USA.

Kostas Tsimikas has not impressed during his four-year stint on Merseyside as the Scotland captain’s deputy, whereas Joe Gomez played most of his football as a left-back last term and also faces an uncertain future at Anfield (The Mirror, 31 July).

Soler has made 30 appearances for Lanus in the Argentine Primera Division and impressed with his four outings with the national side at the Olympics.

The 19-year-old is not a name many Liverpool fans will have heard of, but he is young enough to develop under Slot and learn from Robertson while he adjusts to life in England.

In other Liverpool news, Curtis Jones has been one of the big winners of Slot’s arrival at Anfield.
