Joe Gomez keen on Liverpool exit after what happened in the transfer window – report
Liverpool defender Joe Gomez is now keen to leave Anfield before 30 August, according to HITC.
It comes after he was offered as part of a swap deal with Newcastle for Anthony Gordon at the start of the transfer window as the Magpies had financial trouble.
Arne Slot is open to the 27-year-old staying but can’t offer him the guarantee of first-team football.
Liverpool need to convince Joe Gomez to stay at Anfield
Although Gomez may not be a guaranteed starter in the Reds’ squad when all of the club’s defenders are fit, there’s a case to be made that he should be.
Last season the defender was heavily relied upon by Jurgen Klopp due to the multiple injuries suffered by the likes of Andy Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold.
The former Charlton man played on both sides and even showed glimpses of his talent before his major knee injury that he suffered during the 2020/21 campaign.
Gomez played so well that there were even shouts for him to be crowned as Liverpool’s Player of the Season.

Since then, he has worked his way into the first-team fold and despite all that he offered last season, he was still used as a bargaining chip in the Reds’ pursuit of Gordon [The Mirror, 31 July].
Whilst these are all still just rumours, it’s beginning to feel more and more likely that Slot will lose one of his strongest players in a position that the club already finds itself lacking in.
