View: Liverpool fans will love what Stefan Bajcetic did as footage emerges

Stefan Bajcetic is gearing up for his biggest season in a Liverpool shirt since his debut in the 2022/23 campaign.

The 19-year-old was the shining light in an otherwise disappointing season that year, as Jurgen Klopp’s side finished fifth in the league and missed out on the Champions League for the first time since 2016.

He made 19 appearances in all competitions for the Reds that term and scored his first goal in a 3-1 win against Aston Villa in the league.

As per footage that was shared by The Anfield Wrap, Bajcetic has been putting in extra work after training as he looks to make his mark again in a Liverpool shirt next season.

Bajcetic is ready to prove his worth to Liverpool

Bajcetic managed just 97 minutes of football last term as his season was disrupted by a calf injury in September that kept him on the sidelines for most of the campaign.

The Spain U21 international has provided a problem to the Reds’ transfer strategy, with the club unwilling to spend big on a more established defensive midfielder and halt his development.

He shone for Liverpool during his breakout campaign and eased the loss of Georginio Wijnaldum to PSG and Thiago to injury.

Wataru Endo stands between Bajcetic and a starting spot for Arne Slot and the path could become free sooner than expected, with the Reds rejecting an offer for the 31-year-old from Marseille. (The Athletic, 28 July)

Bajcetic has all the tools to be successful at Anfield, but if the Reds want to return to competing on all fronts they cannot afford to rely on a 19-year-old regularly.

A more established defensive midfielder is needed to push the side this season and to act as a mentor for Bajcetic’s development, despite his evident qualities he has missed nearly a year of football through injury and he must be nurtured through his recovery.

Slot will fully assess his inherited sides when the senior players return from their breaks following Copa America and Euro 2024 duties and the picture will become clear, but, until then it is fantastic to see such a young talent taking his development seriously and staking a claim to be an important part of Slot’s plans this season.
