Liverpool defender Sepp van den Berg now wanted by Bundesliga club – report
VfB Stuttgart have entered the transfer chase for Liverpool defender Sepp van den Berg this summer, according to Eidhovens Dagblad.
The Dutch outlet reported on 23 July that the Bundesliga club was one of many teams interested in acquiring the services of the Dutchman this summer.
PSV was also touted with an interest but the £16.7million that it would reportedly cost for the defender to be pried away from Liverpool is too steep for the Netherlands side.
Liverpool should try to keep Sepp van den Berg this summer
Liverpool are in need of defensive reinforcement this season, especially since the exit of Joel Matip upon the expiry of his contract.
This has left the Reds with two senior centre-backs in Ibrahima Konate and Virgil van Dijk.
Indeed, the club does have Jarell Quansah who was heavily relied upon last season but it feels unfair to throw him into the deep end once again.
Joe Gomez is another option that Arne Slot has within his ranks but as was shown last term, he excels at full-back where he can provide additional cover or even go forward once in a while.
And, with the future of Trent Alexander-Arnold still up in the air, the Reds might become more reliant on the Charlton man this season.

Van den Berg may not be the club’s first option to have as centre-back, especially with recent links to Marc Guehi [Fabrizio Romano, 15 July], but it makes a lot of sense to keep him around.
It would also allow the youngster to prove his worth in the Premier League and perhaps even rake in more money for the club if he performs well.
In other Liverpool news, the Reds are reportedly in the final stages of a deal for Takefusa Kubo.
