Liverpool and interested parties face problem in Nico Williams transfer battle – report

Liverpool face the problem of meeting the wage demands of Athletic Bilbao star Nico WIlliams if they want to sign him this summer, according to the Sunday Mirror.

The newspaper reported via their print edition on 21 July [page 74] that Williams’ wage demands will be problematic for any suitable bidders.

The report also outlines that Euro 2024 winner does have a £49million release clause and other clubs such as Barcelona, Chelsea, and Arsenal are all vying for his transfer.

Liverpool should throw everything at Nico Williams this summer

It’s evident that Williams is a stellar talent and there’s no wonder why many top European clubs want to acquire his services.

The winger was a star for Spain throughout Euro 2024 and his performances seemingly further enticed the many suitors he has.

Although the Reds haven’t yet made any additions to their squad, there have been plenty of players linked with a move to Anfield such as Marc Guehi [Fabrizio Romano, 14 July].

There have also been a plethora of other names linked with Liverpool but as the Reds have shown in other windows, they often like to do business quickly and quietly.

Arne Slot has, however, explored the option of signing Anthony Gordon this summer [The Telegraph, 1 July] but nothing has come to fruition as yet.

The signing of Williams would be a stellar acquisition for Slot and would take the Reds’ team up to another level.

And, although his addition would likely disrupt the current wage structure at the club, Williams could well be worth it.
