Real Madrid transfer approach update on Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold
Real Madrid haven’t yet made a new approach for Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The journalist reported on 17 July in his Daily Briefing that Los Blancos are just monitoring the situation of the right-back as he enters the final year of his contract.
Carlo Ancelotti’s side are interested but haven’t yet made a move for the 25-year-old.
Liverpool need to renew the contract of Trent Alexander-Arnold
Now Arne Slot has taken charge at Liverpool, plans can start to come into place for the 2024/25 season.
We’ve already seen this happen with the Reds being linked with players such as Crystal Palace ace Marc Guehi [Fabrizio Romano, 14 July] as they look to strengthen their team.
Slot will no doubt want to improve on the Reds’ third-place finish next season and perhaps even get to the latter stages of the Champions League.
However, unless the contract situations of key players get resolved soon into the season, performances will likely be overshadowed by the first-team options whose contracts expire at the end of the term.

Alexander-Arnold is key to the way the Reds play and would be impossible to replace, especially if he left for free upon the expiry of his contract.
Virgil van Dijk is another star player within Slot’s squad whose contract is expiring at the end of the campaign and has been linked with an Anfield exit.
Although the Netherlands international is getting to the latter stages of his career, he is still by far and away Liverpool’s best centre-back and is an extremely valuable member of the team.
