Dundee United hold talks for Liverpool defender Billy Koumetio – report
Dundee United are interested in a move for Liverpool centre-back Billy Koumetio, according to Le Parisien journalist Marc Mechenoua.
Writing on his X account (16 July), Mechenoua said discussions have taken place for the Reds’ out-of-favour French defender.
Koumetio spent the second half of the season on loan at Blackburn Rovers in the Championship, where he made only one appearance in the FA Cup.
He was informed he is surplus to requirements at Anfield by Arne Slot and is free to leave the club this summer (Dave OCKOP, 9 July).
Koumetio set to leave Liverpool and kickstart career in Scotland
Once upon a time, Koumetio was considered one of the brightest prospects at the AXA Academy.
He was handed his debut by Jurgen Klopp as a substitute in a Champions League match against FC Midtjylland in 2020.
The 21-year-old started the Carabao Cup tie against Leicester City the following campaign but hasn’t featured for the first-team since.
Koumetio has fallen out of favour at Anfield and has been limited to the U21 squad as he fell further down the pecking order.

The defender has entered the final year of his contract and with no prospects of breaking into the first team he will surely be offloaded this summer.
Another loan move appears off the cards as the Reds would have to renew his contract and try and get a good-value deal next year.
Koumetio has failed to impress in all three loan spells, he was recalled from spells with Austria Wien and USL Dunkerque and made just one appearance for Blackburn last term.
He has failed to live up to the promise during his Anfield tenure and needs to kick-start his career elsewhere.
It is time for both club and player to part ways and a move up north for the former France U20 international is the most likely solution.
