Finance Expert: Liverpool unlikely to be impacted by player actions on international duty
Dan Plumley does not expect Liverpool to be impacted as Darwin Nunez awaits his punishment following his Copa America brawl.
Nunez was filmed allegedly taking a punch to the head from a supporter in the stands before throwing one himself after the semi-final between Colombia and Uruguay last week.
The South American Confederation (CONMEBOL) is looking into the matter, but there is no indication as of yet if Nunez is facing a punishment of any sort.
Either way, football finance expert Plumley insists it is not Liverpool’s matter to deal with.
“We’ve seen violence at football matches and we know that Copa America is a hostile competition but I don’t think we’ve ever seen the protection of family linked to it,” Plumley exclusively told Liverpool News.
“It’s a really difficult one and ultimately, the decision rests with FIFA. It’ll be the player, it’ll be the national association and it’ll be FIFA.
“But it shouldn’t impact Liverpool too much from all angles other than of course supporting the player through it and it’ll be interesting to see what FIFA do.
“It’s quite a unique situation and I think they’ve got a few issues to sort out from Copa America in general because there’s been a bit of bad PR around the tournament.
“There will definitely be some work [behind the scenes] to smooth the Nunez situation out.”
Liverpool unlikely to pay fines for Darwin Nunez antics
Liverpool fans can seemingly breathe a sigh of relief as the club won’t be held to any fines for the actions of Nunez.
Granted, this is largely because he was on international duty at the time so it wouldn’t be very fair on the Reds to have to front a fee for something he did whilst he wasn’t representing the club.
Although the fee would likely be minimal for a club of Liverpool’s stature, it’s the principle of the matter why fans may feel relieved.

The Uruguay international will be hoping to carry on his strong form and performances from the tournament – on the field, that is – and bring them to his domestic game.
As the club are entering a new era, Nunez likely has one more season to prove his worth to the club.
Fingers crossed his antics off the field while away on international duty do not impact Liverpool in any way.
