Liverpool make new Marc Guehi transfer decision after EURO 2024 – report

Liverpool are likely to ramp up their pursuit of Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi now that Euro 2024 has finished, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The journalist reported via Playback Live on 14 July that now that the tournament has finished, the Reds will be showing their appreciation for the 23-year-old.

However, the Reds aren’t the only Premier League team vying for his transfer as Arsenal also appreciate the defender and could look to make a move this summer.

“Marc Guehi has been linked with Liverpool. I can tell you that Liverpool have been scouting the player for a long time. He’s a player they like, for sure,” he said.

“But at the moment, I can tell you that Liverpool are not negotiating for Marc Guehi because the situation is quiet around him. Obviously, there is the Euros, so after the Euros, we will see the appreciation of Liverpool for the player.”

Liverpool signing Marc Guehi would be a major statement of intent

Even if you’re not a Liverpool fan, it’s evident to everyone that the Reds are in the market for a new centre-back this summer.

Not only because Joel Matip has departed the club upon the expiry of his contract but also because of the unreliability of Ibrahima Konate.

Although Arne Slot’s defence is fairly solid when compared to the rest of the Reds’ squad, there’s a significant gap in depth.

Following Matip’s departure, Liverpool only have four centre-back options within their ranks.

And, with the recent rumours around the future of Virgil van Dijk [TEAMtalk, 18 June], the Reds could soon find themselves in a dire situation.

During Euro 2024, Guehi was one of Gareth Southgate’s best players and solidified his status as one of the Premier League’s best defenders.

The Merseyside club have been linked with a move for the defender since the start of the window [Edmund Brack, 28 June] and, if a deal can be struck, it would be a real statement of intent from both the club and FSG.
