Steven Gerrard sends four-word message as Morecambe finalise new signing

Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard has reacted to the news of Adam Lewis signing for Morecambe.

The 24-year-old spent 19 years at Anfield but now leaves having made only one first-team appearance for the Reds.

Lewis posted the news on his personal Instagram account on Saturday (13 July) and former Liverpool captain Gerrard left a message on the post.

He said: “All the best, mate.”

Liverpool plan to offload this summer

The Reds plan to offload several players this summer as Arne Slot’s first-team plan begins to take shape.

Joel Matip and Thiago had already left the club at the end of their contracts before Slot’s arrival, while Adrian rejected a contract offer to return to Spain with Real Betis (liverpoolfc.com, 8 July).

Rhys Williams and Billy Koumetio were also excluded from the first team in pre-season and are both set to leave Anfield this summer (DaveOCKOP, 9 July).

It has all been quiet on the incomings so far, as sporting director Richard Hughes will take an opportunistic approach to the transfer market as Slot assesses the squad.

Lewis leaving Liverpool will be no shock to fans as he never looked ready to break into the first-team.

The move makes sense for all parties but it is sad to see a player who spent 19 years at the club leave in search for first-team football.

He spent his time at Anfield plying his trade for the U18s and U21 sides and loan moves to Amiens SC, Plymouth Argyle, Livingston and Newport County.

Liverpool have made moves to improve the academy this summer, with the imminent signing of 15-year-old Rio Nguhoma from Chelsea (The Athletic, 10 July), who is expected to slot straight into the U18s side.
