Liverpool starlet Kieran Morrison included in Northern Ireland under-19 Euro 2024 squad
Liverpool starlet Kieran Morrison has been included in Northern Ireland’s squad for the UEFA Euro Under-19 Championship.
Northern Ireland’s official X account has announced the team that would be travelling to the tournament on 11 July, with the midfielder named.
Throughout the 2023/24 season, the 17-year-old midfielder had been included in each of his country’s friendlies leading up to the tournament.
Kieran Morrison performances across the 2023/24 season
Despite being just 17 years old, Morrison is one of the brightest sparks in Liverpool’s academy at the moment.
Granted, the likes of Jayden Danns and Ben Doak both managed to break into the Reds’ first-team last season following their major injury crisis, but he could be next.
Youth goalkeeper Vitezslav Jaros is also touted to be in line to break into Liverpool’s first-team fold [James Pearce, 8 July] next season after the departure of Adrian.
Although Morrison wasn’t gifted this chance, his performances for the Reds’ under-18 team were sublime.
Throughout the campaign, the Northern Ireland youth international managed a total of 30 appearances and contributed to 16 goals, 12 of which he scored himself.
Although there are many key factors to his game, his versatility is arguably one of the youngsters’ best assets.
He can be deployed on either wing and even as a number 10. In fact, throughout last season, he even gave central midfield a go, albeit for just three games.
His leadership on the pitch is also already evident as, in Northern Ireland’s final under-19 friendly on 19 June against Slovakia, Morrison captained his side to a 1-1 draw.
This strong form will have to be kept up next season if he wants to break into the first team, especially with the Reds’ new addition of Rio Ngumoha [Daily Mail, 8 July].
