Liverpool ready to match Manchester United Leny Yoro bid on one condition
Liverpool are prepared to match Manchester United’s bid for Lille star Leny Yoro, according to Ben Jacobs.
The journalist reported via X on 9 July that the Reds would only match the Red Devils’ offer – which Jacobs said is £43.3million – if Yoro changed his mind about only wanting Real Madrid.
But, if a move to the Spanish giants doesn’t come this summer, Jacobs added that the 18-year-old centre-back could even wait until 2025 and join on a free transfer.
Why Liverpool need to convince Leny Yoro to join the club
It comes as no surprise that Liverpool are currently in the market for reinforcements.
Across the window both centre-backs and wingers, such as Crysencio Summerville [Wiebe de Vries, 4 July], have been linked with moves to Anfield.
The Reds’ main priority is, however, at centre-back. This is due to the recent departure of Joel Matip but also likely down to the unreliability of Ibrahima Konate.
One fear Arne Slot might have over his current squad is strength in depth, particularly if any of his regulars are unavailable.
Liverpool’s defence has been home to some harsh criticism in recent seasons and, without Virgil van Dijk commanding the defensive line, the Merseyside club would be nowhere near as strong as they are.

The Reds’ interest in new defenders has been rife all summer with players such as Lutshrel Geertruida [HITC, 4 July] among those linked with a move to Anfield.
Should Liverpool manage to pull off the transfer of Yoro, it would be an immense coup for the side and would no doubt form the perfect mentee for Van Dijk.
This transfer saga is far from over and will definitely be one to watch over the course of summer.
